The Barehoof Trim

One trim does not fit all horses!

One trim does not fit all horses! Instead it is best to focus on an approach that works with the structures of the hoof and the needs of each individual horse. This will result in a non invasive trim, the essence of which is only to remove what is absolutely necessary to keep the hoof in balance and free from disease. After every trim the horse will be sound, healthy and happy.

Biomechanically and Anatomically Correct

By using a Biomechanically and Anatomically Correct Trim it is possible to help the horse to move as it truly should. This in turn will allow the correct stimulation of the various parts of the hoof. This then allows them to develop as each individual horse requires. Every horse is different, although there are markers and parameters to trim to and these guidelines will vary.

How does the Trim affect your horse?...

If a trim is done incorrectly - horses are forced to move in an unnatural and incorrect way by their trim or shoeing. This results in parts of the hoof being over worked and therefore causes damage.

  • This can result in poor balance and poor hoof health. By trimming the hoof correctly we can allow the horse to show us exactly what they require and they are then able to achieve this, with minimal help from us.

Patience is the key. Each horse is given the time it takes to complete the job.

The horse dictates its needs, not a text book.
This can be achieved by having a comprehensive understanding of the hoof capsule,
leg and the horse as a whole.
