Why use a balancer?
The horse evolved to roam vast distances, and in doing so would be able to forage on a wide range of different grasses and plants growing on differing soil types. The modern horse lives in a completely different environment and may have very little variety in the meals that it eats. This leads to many deficiencies and imbalances.
It is not only the absolute levels of minerals available in your horse’s forage that is important. In the UK, much of the hay, haylage and grass is high in Iron. This can lead to deficiencies in copper and zinc, as iron will block the uptake of these minerals. Excess calcium can also block the absorption of magnesium.
Deficiencies in magnesium, copper and zinc can lead to many issues, such as poor hoof quality, a predisposition to thrush and abscesses, coat “bleaching” and exaggerated inflammatory reactions.

Why use a Bespoke Balancer?
There is a wide variation in the mineral content of forage in different parts of the UK, and sometimes even on a local level. The only way to know the mineral levels in the forage you are feeding is to have it analysed for mineral content. Your Equinosh bespoke balancer will be produced to address the deficiencies and imbalances in your forage.
